THE BEST ANSWER!

Resident Evil 5 cover
Resident Evil 5
For the past few months all i was hearing while watching the updates on the new RESIDENT EVIL GAME is that RESIDENNT EVIL 5 is RACIST …. i am really really really sick of it!
Apparently people who started this false accusation are the ones who are not slightly connected to the franchise, they did not enjoy playing the zombie game at any level or saw the films!
The incidents of RE5 take place in Africa where it all began, the virus started from a huge ant that umberella then started testing the subject virus into the residents of the area! THAT IS IT …
Why do people go around saying that just because you SHOOT black people in AFRICA that makes you a racist!
I tell you what, i am so thrilled about this game, i want to play it to the end, and not at any point i will stop and say “Shiiiiit! it is racist!” , you want a racist game, play Grand Theft Auto!
On another note, it is a very sad news to hear that Australia is banning more and more games in their country, kids there will have to smuggle their copies of the new Silent Hill 5, download them, play pirated versions or whatever ….
Video games culture is becoming the new PORN … everything is considered a taboo … Silent Hill -as resident evil- was never a child’s game, will never be, in civilised countries you need an ID to buy the games, they have a rating for over 18 years old to buy them! so whatever blood and gore, horror and shock are in the game, only grown ups will tolerate that!
That brings me to a cute little story anyway… when i was in Muscat there was our -Issam and i – favorite video game shop which sold copies and modified consoles, it also provided rental play and internet sevices, run by the friendliest Indian brother and sister, they always kept the great games for us under the shelf before anyone put their dirty hands on them …. Anyway, the thing is that he sold all the PS2 copied games but the shop guy was aware that few games are not suitable for everyone, especially kids, so this little kid comes to him asking for Grand theft Auto: San Andreas for PS2 (which i think that it is a terrible game that glorifies racism and hatred!) … The shop guy declines the boy’s inquiry and tells him that this is a grown up game … the Local kid comes later with his father who would trash the shop guy (Racist trashing shit) and asks him to give the kid any game he wants because he is only a working Indian in a gulf country! (Super!) … the Shop guy gracefully tries to explain to the father that this game is not suitable for his kid and that he might have better games for a grammar school kid! the father tells him that if he does not sell him the game now he will report him to the authorities and deport him out of the country for any trivial reason!
The moral of the story, Games can be bad shit, but it is the power of people that decided which games to play and which not!
I always enforce the idea to my family members and friends who let their kids play any pirated copy of any game TO WATCH WHAT THEIR KIDS are playing for fuck’s sake! one week after my 4 years old nephew started playing TEKKEN 4 he started kicking other kids’ butts thinking it is only normal to do so coz it is in his video games! i replaced his collection with FINDING NEMO, BEN 10, FIFA and NEED FOR SPEED … i am not sure about the NEED FOR SPEED one but he is too young to drive anyway! his father is a good driver so no worries! he wont steal the car untill he is 15, hopefully!
Back in the days, Super Mario was a hit, Metroid Prime was a guilty pleasure and The legend of Zelda was a super game! we had gaming roots, we also played in the street normally … nowadays, two kids from same school and living on the same block would connect on Xbox Live to share their gaming skills over a router!
Spread the good knowledge about video games … Rating Labels for games are like Nutriotional labels on the Milk Box … be a smart gamer for your own sake , and your children’s as well!

LITTLE HAYA

So again, here is a pencil sketch that i forgot to scan before inking, so i scanned it for you with the ink so you get an idea of the base Pencil line i am using.

Yup, this is my Line art, very basic one, Grayscale, 150dpi, cleaning with the white brush.

The flats looks kindda scary! but that is Manga anyway, if you do not shade it, it will look very dull and scary, so Manga style drawing is about hard shading and basic strong colors. The line art layer is set to “multiply” and the flats below it, now the layers in between will shower with lots of brushes to the finish.

This is HALA, Issam’s new niece … HAYA girl is done in a Manga Style, chibi, with the magic wand and YATTA Style pose! sailor moon outfit and huge pink hair (i squeeze the final image a little bit so she looks cuter!)

So this goes for Issam’s niece HAYA, welcome to the world and best wishes for a happy long life.

“TWO” BAD

This is a little treat i wanted to do to my friend Muhammed Juma’a and his newly born cutie Yousef. Father and Son, “TWO COMPANY” – know the game? …. anyways, i started with a pencil sketch, rough one, although i tend to be a little precise in my pencil instruction so i know my Ink lines better.

Now i have the inked one, i love inking by the way, it boosts the image in a solid way and gives it virtual borders of space, i scanned this on 150dpi, grayscale and started the agonizing process of cleaning the small pencil unearsed lines that showed even on Auto-leveling! 15 minutes later with a white hard brush and i am done.

Know your ink, know your flats. By flats i means, Flat solid colors in one or multiple layers even if they are not what you are going to have eventually you should have Solid Flats if you are doing a Line Art Painting on Photoshop, it gives you a direction of what to do and where to start if you do not have the full thing in your head yet. Photoshop painting is experiemental and fun, there is no exact science in it.

Again, lots of brushing and erasing in hard brushes.

an hour later of brushing with various brushes and smudging around, dodging and building layers, i came up with this. it is not perfect but i like it. The thing is that you keep working on the piece till you need to stop at one point even if it is not fully done. Less is more as they say.

Again, Photoshop painting is not an exact science, my best trick that i found online was “Brushes do not bite! play with them! know your brushes!” , i was struggling with many tutorials but i found out that i can not do anything but find my own way by trying things out.

Voila!

Hope you like it, Juma’a and Juma’a Jr.

Kisses to the baby.
